The programme of study leads to a B. Sc Nursing Degree offered by the Kerala University of Health Science, Thrissur. The candidates who opt for Nursing are necessarily required to possess high motivation towards Nursing profession. They should possess special qualities of a spirit of altruism commitment and dedication to work and high level of maturity other than academic requirements expected to be fulfilled. The programme extends to four years. The students are provided with theoretical instructions integrated with extensive clinical experience as per the requirements.

OBJECTIVES OF B. Sc NURSING PROGRAMME On completion of the B.Sc Nursing program the graduates are expected to:-
  1. Assess the health status, identify the health needs and problems, plan implement and evaluate quality nursing care for clients that contribute to health of individuals, families and community.
  2. Demonstrate competency in nursing and ability to guide others in rendering quality care to individuals and families.
  3. Participate and collaborate as members of health team to provide comprehensive health care.
  4. Demonstrate leadership qualities, skills on management, and decision making abilities in providing health care.
  5. Maintain satisfying inter personal relationship with individuals and social groups by effective communication.
  6. Respect human life and its right from the moment of conception till natural end regardless of caste, creed, race, colour, intelligence or political status.
  7. Participate in research activities and contribute towards extension of nursing knowledge.
  8. Assumes responsibility for continue learning and professional growth.
  9. Evaluate the care given continuously to attain higher levels of quality care.
  10. Practice ethical values in one’s own personal and professional life.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR B. Sc. NURSING The minimum requirement for admission to B. Sc Nursing Degree Course;
  1. A Pass in Higher Secondary or 10+2 examinations with Physics, Chemistry and Biology as optional subjects with aggregate of 50% of marks, or any other equivalent examination approved by the Kerala University of Health Science.
  2. Age Limit is 17 – 35 years
  3. Candidate shall be medically fit.

SELECTION
  • 50% of the total intake should be filled up by candidates selected through common entrance. (Government Quota)
  • 50% of seats will be filled by the management, out of which 5% reserved for NRI.

OBJECTIVES OF POST BASIC B. Sc. NURSING PROGRAMME On completions of Post-Basic B. Sc nursing degree programme the graduates will be able to:
  1. Assess health status, identify nursing needs, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care for patients /clients that contribute to health of individuals, families and communities.
  2. Demonstrate competency in techniques of nursing based on concepts and principles from selected areas of nursing, physical, biological and behavioral sciences.
  3. Participate as members of health team in promotive, preventive, curative and restorative health care delivery system of the country.
  4. Demonstrate skills in communication and interpersonal relationship.
  5. Demonstrate leadership qualities and decision making abilities in various situations.
  6. Demonstrate skills in teaching to individuals and groups in clinical/community health settings.
  7. Demonstrate managerial skills in various health care settings.
  8. Practice ethical values in their personal and professional life.
  9. Participate in research activities and utilize research findings in improving nursing practice.
  10. Recognize the need for continued learning for their personal and professional development.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS FOR POST BASIC B.Sc. NURSING The Criteria for admission to Post Basic B. Sc Nursing Degree Course:-
  1. A Pass in Higher Secondary or 10+2 examinations or other equivalent examination approved by the Kerala University of Health Science.
  2. A Pass in General Nursing & Midwifery examination conducted by the State Nursing Councils / Examining boards recognized by INC
  3. Candidates should possess Kerala Nursing Council Registration at the time of application.
  4. The upper age limit for joining the course is 45 years.
  5. Candidate shall be medically fit.

SELECTION

Selection of candidates shall be on the basis of the marks obtained for the qualifying examination (GNM) and on the basis of the rank obtained in the entrance examination conducted by a competent authority.

For SC/ST and OBC candidates, reservation rules shall be observed while admitting students in Merit Quota as per the prospectus issued by Govt. of Kerala for admission to professional courses.

The candidate who opts for higher educatin are required to possess high motivation towards Nursing profession. The programme extends to two years. The students are provided with theoretical instructions integrated with extensive clinical experience as per the requirements to become an expertise in nursing field.

AIM OF M.Sc NURSING

Aim of the postgraduate program in nursing is to prepare graduates to assume responsibilities as Clinical Nurse Specialists, Nurse Practitioners, Consultants, Educators, Researchers and Administrators in a wide variety of professional settings.

OBJECTIVES OF M.Sc NURSING On completion of 2 year M.Sc Nursing programme, the graduates will be able to:
  1. Apply the concepts, theories & principles of nursing science.
  2. Demonstrate advance competence in practice of nursing as a nurse specialist.
  3. Establish collaborative relationship with the members of other disciplines.
  4. Assume leadership in various care setting.
  5. Participate in health planning, implementation and evaluation at different levels of health care system.
  6. Demonstrate skill in conducting nursing research, interpreting and utilizing the findings from health related research.
  7. Function as effective nurse educators and nurse managers.
  8. Conduct independent nursing research and utilize the health research findings in nursing practice and education.
  9. Demonstrate the ability to plan and effect change in nursing practice and in the health care delivery system.
  10. Demonstrate interest and positive attitude in continuing education for personal and professional growth.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
  • Registration in Kerala Nurses and Midwives Council
  • B.Sc Nursing / B.Sc Hons. Nursing/Post Basic B.Sc Nursing from an Institution recognized by INC with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks
  • Only candidates who attended regular full time degree programs will be eligible
  • Minimum of one year work experience after B.Sc Nursing
  • One year internship after successful completion of four year B.Sc Nursing can be considered as one year work experience
  • Relaxation of marks for SC/ST candidates may be given as per the state government norms
  • Candidates who got degree from any other state university must produce migration certificate and eligibility certificate from KUHS on the day of counseling
  • Candidates shall be medically fit
  • Age should not exceed 45 years
